When Should You Sell?
Is there ever a good time to sell? What should you do if you think the market is about to crash? Brian shares his advice on when to consider selling your stocks.
Are you prone to panic selling? As the markets hint at a looming market crash, how can you know when it’s time to sell in your portfolio? On today’s episode of the podcast, Brian talks through a few reasons why some might want to sell some of their portfolio.
If you’re getting close to retirement, you may need to de-risk. Your risk tolerance, or capacity to handle big losses, changes as you get closer to needing that money in retirement. For instance, bonds typically don’t have big losses or big gains. You’ve got to get it dialed in to align with your risk tolerance and financial goals.
When you have a short-term investment goal, you want to make sure you are diversified and the risk matches the need. If you’re trying to buy a car in two years with this money, you want the fund to be more conservative so it’s there when you need it. Be prepared and have your risk levels dialed in. Working with a financial advisor doesn’t mean you’ll get scolded if you get off track or have a low-risk tolerance, they are just there to coach you through it.
